What Are CBD and CBG?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, and CBG, or cannabigerol, are both derived from the hemp plant. Hemp plants, while in the same family as cannabis plants, contain less than 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis. Hemp IS federally legal and is what Primal uses in our supplements. Both CBD and CBG do not produce a “high”.

To easily summarize it, CBD and CBG oil are extracted compounds from the flowers of a hemp plant. CBD and CBG oil differ from hemp oil, however. Hemp oil is produced using hemp seeds and contains no cannabinoids.

Research shows that CBD and CBG support pets’ Endocannabinoid System, an internal signaling system in animal bodies that communicate balance, or homeostasis. These cannabinoids may help address occasional pet joint stiffness, provide a calming effect and immune support, and help to manage stress.

Are CBD and CBG Safe for Pets?

Yes. If taken in the appropriate doses as indicated by your pet’s species and weight, CBD and CBG are safe for pets. There may be interactions with certain medications, so speak to your veterinarian to confirm that your pet’s combination of the medications and cannabinoids is safe.
